Kids Crossing's Foster Parent
CARE & SHARE
Food Bank Information
For Colorado Springs' Area Foster Parents
Updated July 14, 2010
I am sorry to inform you that Care and Share is on hold until further notice
Here is what Care and Share said in a letter to us.
Dear Child Placement Agencies and Foster Care Associations:
Feeding America, the national affiliate for hunger relief and Care and Share's parent organization, has implemented a change in policy regarding a foster care family's access to food through food banks.
A few years back, Feeding America had granted foster families access to emergency food by allowing them to shop directly at a food bank vs. visiting a neighborhood food pantry. It has been determined that allowing families direct access to a food bank vs. visiting a local food pantry and self declaring they are in need is in conflict with the mission of hunger relief. The goals of hunger relief include serving the neediest members of our communities and Feeding America recognizes that although children in foster care are in need, there are many resources available to meet these needs.
We are trying to work something out with Care and Share but we do not know how it is going to turn out.
Thank You
Leslie Campbell
