How You Can Help

Kids Crossing is always looking for foster parents. However, some people aren't able to care for children in their homes. There are many other ways that you can help!  Please contact Amy Harder at 719.667.7040 or email aharder@kidscrossing.com for more information or to join our mailing list.

Kids Crossing has children needing foster parents in Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Denver, Colorado.Monetary Donations

  • We encourage you to consider Kids Crossing when making your income tax charitable deductions. Your charitable gift can make a significant and immediate difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.  Additionally, most donations are eligible for a tax credit.

  • Provide Scholarships to our children so that they are allowed the opportunity for educational, recreational and sports activities.

  • Sponsor a foster family event!  We hold annual foster family events during the summer and during the holiday season.  Businesses or individuals can help subsidize the costs of these events by giving financial and/or in-kind donations.

  • Flexible Spending Fund for Families:  This fund is specifially for families involved in our wraparound program who are presented with financial hurdles impeding reunification with their children. We want children to be home with their families and if an unpaid utility bill, deposit on an apartment or access to automobile insurance is keeping this from happening, we want to be able to help!

Gifts in Kind Donations

Gifts in kind are donations of material goods. For example, donations of gently used or new furniture, toys, diapers, bicycles and other items that a struggling family can use. Kids Crossing also has a clothing bank for children who are in foster care.  Many of the familes of children in our foster homes cannot afford to go to a second-hand store to buy necessary items (and are often getting situated in their new apartments/homes in order to have their children placed back with them)--so, if you are able to receive the same tax deduction, why not give directly to our families--who truly need what you have to give!

December 2009....Our Holiday Gift Drive

Each year, before Halloween, Kids Crossing begins to find donors for our "Adopt a child" program.  Gifts for foster and adopted children ages 0 to 18, as well as gifts for families of those children who are struggling, are all needed.  The Adopt a child program works as ornaments are created with each child's name, gender, age and a few wishes for the Holiday season.  Then, during the month of December, gifts are collected, usually in gift bags, with tags securely attached.   Also in December, Holiday parties are held in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and in Denver where Santa gives out the gifts! Our Pueblo party was on Friday, December 11th and our Colorado Springs party was on Monday, 12/14. Our Denver Party was Tuesday, December 15th at Casa Bonita.  Each party had almost 200 parents and children in attendence!  We'd love to have your help in 2010!

We want to thank all of the generous businesses and individual donors who made this 2009 year a HUGE success!!!  With their help, we were able to give almost 1,000 gifts to our children and other children who have recently reunified with their families.  WOW!!!! This year we surpassed all expectations!

This past December 2008, we thank many of the same wonderful donors who have remained committed to us over the years!  ITT, T-Mobile, PPAR, King Soopers, Human Touch, Amber Eastburn, and new donors:  DeeDee Reinstein, Aker-Hubbard Family, Karen McNalloy, Mandie Hoehne, Jennifer Taylor, Pine Creek High School's Angel Tree, Gold Camp Elementary School, Patti Montgomery, Donna Mobley, Carrie McGinty, Debbie Avery, Anneliese Gillie, Eagles Wrestling Club, Joseph Burns, Lavene Russell, Jamie Davis, William and Linda Batson, Rolf Miller, Shirlee Tibbets.... We thank all of you!!!

Thanks to all those who helped in December 2007:  Our amazing donors included:  ITT (Thank you especially to organizer, Michelle Merritt! ), PPAR (Thank you to Linda Littlefield), Children's Chorale (Thank you to Marcia Hendricks), T-Mobile (Thank you to Catherine Miles), MCMC (Thank you to Joan Steininger), King Soopers-Unitah Gardens (Thanks to Chris Erikson), Titan's Wrestling Club (Thanks to Christine Sullivan & Coach Jay), Human Touch(Thank you to Becky), Stetson Hills Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints (Thanks to Leigh), Street Soldierz Motorcycle Club (Thanks to Vickie), Amy Hawley, Amber Eastburn, Michael & Faith Hunt, Mandie Hoehne, Sarah McDavid, to name just a few!!!!  We had our parties where Santa gave away the presents to the children (12/10 in Colorado Springs at Sunnyside Christian Church, 12/12 in Denver at Casa Bonita and 12/15 in Pueblo at St. Therese)....What an incredible experience this is to see the children open their presents.  Shouts of "How did Santa know?" and "This is what I always wanted my whole life!" echoed through the party as the kids opened their personalized gifts--Thanks again to our very generous donors!!!

Not to forget Christmas 2006, due to the generosity of our donors, Kids Crossing was able to provide personalized gifts for over 600 children! Major donors (200+ children) included Pikes Peak Association of REALTORS (Thank you Vidya!), and Colorado Springs Children's Chorale (Thank you Marcia!) and (90+ children) Peoples Mortgage (Thank you Arlene!), T-Mobile (Thank you Catherine and Christy) and (75+ children) King Soopers-Uintah Gardens (Thank you Paul and Jennifer) and (50+) Mountain Community Mennonite Church (Thank you Don & Jan)...  We also had MANY individual donors and other businesses that helped as well, thanks to THE GAZETTE's listings of our needs.  See our Januaray 2007 Kids Crossing's Connections Newsletter for a list of all of our donors.  One woman, Angel, instead of buying unnecessary gifts for her mother, adopted 2 young siblings to buy for and gave the children's ornaments to her mother as a Christmas gift.  Amber, just returned from Iraq, and adopted two young girls around the age of her 3 year old daughter.  Buying for these girls helped her bond with her daughter and to begin to teach the value and importance of service.  Read Amber's story in our newsletter as well.

Become a Volunteer

Kids Crossing can always use the help of volunteers!  Whether it be acting as an adovcate for biologcial parents working to reunify with their children, tutoring children in care, providing transportation, providing child care so foster parents can attend a training, or helping to organize the clothing bank, we can always use your help!  Volunteers who intend to work directly with children will need to complete background checks and sign a confidentiality statement prior to helping out.
